Worst floods in 70 years
Friday, October 27 2006
After 4 days of torrential rains lots of floodings occured in the Highlands of Scotland. More than 30 schools were closed and public transport was disrupted due to the heavy rainfall and 80mph winds. The area around Dingwall and Easter Ross was hit worst by floods. Lifeboat and Coastguard crews were rescuing people from flooded houses while other people escaped in rowing boats. Some stretches of the A9 and other minor roads were closed and virtually every community, from Maryburgh on the Cromarty Firth to Orkney, found itself under water after four days of heavy rain took their toll. Fallen trees also caused blocked roads in The Highlands. According to the Met Office the worst of the weather is now over.
