Reindeer in the Cairngorms Scotland

The Cairngorms National Park in Scotland is an area of outstanding natural beauty and Britains largest national park. The Cairngorms National Park has the largest area of arctic mountain landscape in the UK. It is home to 16,000 people and 25% of Britain's threatened birds, animals, and plants. It includes moorlands, forests, rivers, lochs and glens. The highest mountain in the Cairngorms is the Ben MacDui with 1309 meters, only 35 meters lower than the Ben Nevis. The Cairngorm Mountains can be found in the north-east of Scotland, east of the A9 between Kingussie and Grantown-on-Spey.

There are numerous tourist attractions in the area and the Cairngorms are also home to Britain's only herd of reindeer, found free ranging in the Cairngorm mountains. There are currently around 130 reindeer, approximately 50 of them ranging the Cairngorm Mountains and the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate; the locations being some 30 miles apart.
